MARKETING COUNSELORS Limited yesterday received the Gleaner Company's 2004 top billing award for the highest publications last year. The award was presented at the Gleaner's Advertisers' Appreciation and Awards Luncheon at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.

Adrian Robinson, managing director of Marketing Counselors Limited, accepted the top award on behalf of his company. He thanked his hardworking staff and praised The Gleaner for continuing to be "of real value".

Other awardees at yesterday's lavish function were PRO Communications, for being the most compliant agency; EWA Communications, for the best growth performance; CGR Communications, for generating the third largest volume of business; and OGM Integrated Communi-cations, for providing the second-largest volume of business.

PLANS TO RETAIN MARKET DOMINANCE

Garfield Grandison, The Gleaner's editor-in-chief, updated the guests on the progress the paper made in 2004 and announced plans to ensure that it retains its market dominance in 2005.

"We will be listening to our readers more this year," he said. "We don't claim to know it all so we will be looking to the readers to give us their input. This is going to be an exciting year for The Gleaner. "

Mr. Grandison also brought the advertisers up to date on the newly-established Gleaner/ Power 106 News Centre, which officially started operations on January 17.

"This is a new journey and a new milestone for The Gleaner. We are now the most powerful news gathering centre in the region and one of the most powerful combinations to reach your market," he told advertisers.

The luncheon was filled with fun, fine food and festivities, as The Gleaner rolled out the red carpet to pamper its advertisers. Comedian Owen 'Blacka' Ellis kept the crowd laughing, while singer A.J. Brown's musical performance earned a standing ovation.

MCs for the function were Advertising and Marketing Manager Yvonne Senior and her deputy, Nordia Craig.
