Album: Blessings Again
Artiste: Lubert Levy
WINNER OF the 2004 Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Gospel Song Competition, Lubert Levy, has released his debut album entitled Blessings Again.
The album was produced by Gifton Smith, Paul Barclay, Hugh Campbell and Creative Sounds, and boasts 14 spirited tracks, including a remix to Levy's 2004 JCDC Gospel-winning song, Blessings Again.
The title of the album, however, may have been selected by Mr. Levy because of the fact that his winning song in the gospel competition was entitled Blessings Again, and persons may easily recall it and would want to identify with it. However, it may not have been the most appropriate of titles for the album.
MESSAGES
The majority of songs on the album declared a number of things, for example, unwavering faith to God, a strong love for God and desire to serve, among other messages.
However, by the time persons get into the meat of the matter and begin to listen to the songs on the album, all this concern about album title will go through the window.
Levy begins his album with a song called Plea The Blood, which immediately launches an attack on the devil, while declaring that Christians should plea di blood pon him (Satan), mek wi step pon him, come wi run weh Satan and live free from sin.
The second track Don't Touch It presents a similar vibe, and is particularly interesting in the way the song begins with the sound of female vocals (a cappella style) singing, Nah touch it, nah touch it, Jesus nuh love it suh wi nah touch it. Levy then gets into the specifics of what he would not touch. This list ranges from things like adultery, fornication, witchcraft, killing and stealing. This track may be one to cause the selectors to wheel and come again.
Other tracks that follow, take the tempo down a notch, causing Christians and non-Christians (in separate songs) to reflect on the status of their spiritual life and make the necessary changes.
The only contention with Levy's album is how the remix to his winning song Blessings Again was done. The song does not sound quite like a remix, and persons may agree that the original tune is more enjoyable and energetic.
For the second half of the album, Levy takes the pace nice and easy, with songs that will get the thoughts flowing on a Sunday morning.
The album, overall, is a good one, creative and diverse where the rhythms, background vocals and contents were concerned, with that additional burst of energy.
