Giants clash again

REVENGE IS what Arnett Gardens will have on their minds when they tackle perennial rivals Tivoli Gardens in the final of the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association's (KSAFA) Western Union Jackie Bell Knockout competition at the National Stadium at 6:00 p.m. today.

Just three days ago, Tivoli Gardens turned in an impressive performance to clip their neighbours 1-0 in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League at the Edward Seaga Stadium and will want to prove it was no fluke.

In their previous meeting for the season, Tivoli held Arnett to a 0-0 draw at the Anthony Spaulding Complex therefore giving them the psychological advantage.

But Kasai Hinds, captain of the defending champions Tivoli Gardens, says there is no room for complacency when playing Arnett Gardens.

"It is the same game plan, same routine. There is no tactical change from the last game," Hinds said.

"Whenever Tivoli and Arnett meet it is the game of the century. It's just a big game. We are going in positive and just to play our game," said the sweeper who started playing for Tivoli as a midfieder in 1996.

THE ULTIMATE DERBY

Meanwhile, the opposing captain, goalkeeper Julian McLeish, said: "There is no bigger clash. It's the ultimate derby. It's like Manchester versus Arsenal. "Both sides want victory but we are confident and will be trying our best," he added.

Tivoli and Arnett Gardens have won the trophy a combined six times with Arnett winning four to Tivoli's two.

Arnett, who share the most KO victories with Waterhouse, lifted the title in 1990, 1992, 1995 and 1999 while Tivoli won in 1994 and last year.

Tivoli Gardens will still be without the injured Lenworth Hyde Jr. but with national striker Roland Dean teaming up with Christopher Nicholas, Fabian Davis, Christopher Jackson and Steve Green, Arnett will be hard- pressed to reverse Sunday's result.

Arnett Gardens are still hoping that playmaker Winston Griffiths is fit after missing the last encounter.

Kevin Wilson, Andrew Chisholm, Keith Kelly and the roaming Kwame Richardson should take the fight to Tivoli in another interesting match-up.

The winner of the finals will take home $350,000 while the losers receive $200,000, but there will be no third-place playoff. Thus Tivoli and Arnett will also determine how much Waterhouse and Constant Spring receive.

NO PLAYOFF

"The losing semi-finalists to the winners will become third and the losing semi-finalists to the runners-up will come fourth," said Stewart Stephenson, president of KSAFA.

It will be interesting to see Waterhouse and Constant Spring cheering for Arnett and Tivoli Gardens respectively as they determine the greater share of the jackpot.

According to Stephenson, there will be no playoff because it is a bit difficult for the clubs at this time "and based on our assessment of the numbers, we think that the game will not get as much support."

Consequently, only the grandstand will be used and the cost is $400 for adults and $200 for children.
