Dimekia Bowes dances up a storm
published: Saturday | February 12, 2005

Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

CONTRIBUTED - A proud Dimekia Bowes

On January 29, eight year-old Dimekia Bowes won the dance contest at the annual kiddies treat, organised by the Crime Prevention Security Company Limited, based in Central Kingston.

But for Bowes, a student of Franklyn Town Primary School and also the prefect of her three grade class, who hails from the Rae Town area, her latest win is the sweetest, as the organisers of the event will be assisting her with educational supplies.

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE

Dimekia has won the contest for three years in a row.

"We will be assisting her with about $20,000 worth of back to school supplies, each term" said Trevor Palmer, the company's chief executive officer (CEO), who spoke with The Gleaner on Friday.

Faith Robinson, managing director, said this was one way for the company to give something back to the community. Her organisation has been in existence for over the 20 years, operating from 2 Elletson Lane, which sits on the border of several politically divided communities

SPORTS DEVELOPMENT

Apart from hosting the annual kiddies treat, the company has been deeply involved in the development of sports in that section of the city. Crime Prevention Security Company has also been employing residents from the area.

Every year a special treat is held for children from the adjoining communities.

At this year's treat, the respective winners of the various contests were given cash prizes. The children in attendance were given gift packages.

The security company has been hosting the kiddies treat for the past 11 years.
