Cop's transfer stands despite demonstration
published: Saturday | February 12, 2005

Stephanie Elliott, Gleaner Writer

CLARENDON: SUPERINTENDENT OF Police for Clarendon, Terrence Bent warned residents of Lionel Town who took action against the removal of Constable Oraine Mulgrave from the Lionel Town Police Station in Clarendon, that despite their action, the young officer will be transferred to assume the position of community relations officer at the Clarendon Police Headquarters.

Residents of Lionel Town on January 2 staged a demonstration before the Lionel Town Police station against the removal of Constable Oraine Mulgrave. The residents said that the officer was the best they have seen in years and he has made a positive contribution to the community through the police youth club.

Mr. Bent was speaking at a town meeting called at the Lionel Town Court house last week, to explain to concerned residents some of the reasons why Constable Mulgrave had to be removed from the area.

IMPROVE QUALIFICATIONS

Superintendent Bent told the group that the young constable was of above average intelligence. He said that the officer has shown, "high levels of dedication, initiative and energy that is unlike some young persons, and was being channelled in the right direction".

The Superintendent told the group that in his new post, Constable Mulgrave will be able to contribute more to the police youth club not only in Lionel Town but across the parish. He added that the officer will also be improving his qualifications.
