IT WAS only the warm up for soca lovers, when they turned out last Friday at the Mass Camp Village, Oxford Road in New Kingston, to share in Bacchanal Jamaica's 'Fantasia', which is only one in a series of many weekly fetes that will be taking place during the Bacchanal Jamaica season.
Despite the late show for the majority of patrons who turned out to the event, it would prove to be worth their while, as they were in for a number of treats, including a live band performance from Surface of Trinidad.
LOADS OF ATTRACTION
There were loads of attractions for everyone who attended, as the display of costumes for the road march were showcased, while sponsors, such as KFC and Digicel added that extra flavour with games, prizes and give-aways throughout the night.
One game in particular had patrons attempting to use a hammer to hit a lever as high as possible up the ladder, and depending on how high the lever propelled, then patrons could win prizes, including key rings and flash lights.
In addition, music by the Sparkles Disco had patrons moving to the soca rhythm all night, as they were introduced to some of the brand new tunes for Carnival 2K5, including tunes like "Building Shake", "Nookie", "Whine On Me", "What Happen In The Partyand Fly".
Patrons were obviously still in the process of getting used to these songs and had not yet fully soaked up the soca vibes. However, all that would change when the Sparkles Disco increased the level of vibes a few notches with some of the old soca favourites from last year. These included songs like "Soca Train", "Look Di Band Coming", and "Why Don't You Come Over".
At midnight, the band from Trinidad, surfed on stage to some loud cheers from patrons, as all were only too eager to get the live segment of the show going.
"Let mi si all di hands of
people from Trinidad, Canada, United States ... Jamaica!" And loud cheers erupted!
The Surface band, with lead vocals Terry, Nicole and Tony, gave almost an hour of energy-filled performance on stage, doing songs like "Nookie", "Hands In The Air" and "On The Road".
The fans loved every minute of the performance, and after the band left the stage, patrons continued to soak in the soca vibes to the sound of Sparkles Disco.
