Arnett outclass Wadadah
published: Monday | February 14, 2005

Ainsley Walters, Staff Reporter

ARNETT GARDENS, playing with a swagger in their every step, outclassed struggling Wadadah 3-1 at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Kwame Richardson opened the scoring after five minutes from three yards and Daniel Shaw made it 2-0 from the edge of the six-yard box in the 29th minute, getting it right on the rebound after his first shot was blocked by a defender shadowing Kevin Wilson.

Unmarked substitute Garth Boota capped a fine week for the Junglists, nodding in Loxley Thomas' cross from the left side of the six-yard box from almost goalmouth.

It was gallery time for Arnett inside the final 15 minutes as midfielder Thomas made a mockery of Wadadah's Garfield Brown, teasing the central defender with dummies before playing the ball through his legs on the left side of his penalty area.

Not satisfied, Brown chased the former Portmore United player to the byline where he was turned inside out by Thomas, who rounded off the play by floating the ball across goal for Boota to nod home after being on the field for just three minutes.

Arnett, who won the under-21 game 4-1, came close on several other occasions to extend their lead but were denied by desperate goalkeeping from Garrick Bennett. However, Richardson had no excuse not to double his tally in the 41st minute when he booted over the bar from eight yards after latching on to a rebound off Wilson's torrid shot at goal.

Oliver Sewell, who came on as a 81st minute substitute for Wadadah, got their consolation goal in the 44th minute as Arnett eased up off the throttle, booting powerfully over Julian McLeish from 12 yards.

Arnett coach Michael Tulloch said his players' pace overwhelmed Wadadah.

"We try to play on the counter," he pointed out. "We soak them in...we have a lot of players with pace so we build our game around that, around the strengths of our players. Whenever we soak them up in midfield we make the fast breaks."

Wadadah coach Anthony 'Follies' Williams said his team continues to make simple mistakes in defence.

"At this level you'll be hurt by your opponents," he said. "The three goals we gave up were carelessness in defence. People keep getting chances at goal unattended, look at the third goal, and that's not good for the defence."
