Zero tolerance at stop signs?
published: Wednesday | February 16, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

RE: INTERSECTIONS like Seymour and Seaview avenues, Oliver and Shortwood roads, Tower Street and Lower Elletson Road.

It is one thing to blow through these intersections and any motorist guilty of same should be punished to the full extent of the law. When a motorist, however, slows to a crawl, looks to see if it is safe to proceed and does this and is then ticketed by the police for failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign then the relations between police and citizens becomes strained.

Any argument about me being in favour of motorists breaking the law is a specious one, the motorist, by slowing and looking is adhering to the spirit of the law.

I am, etc.,

ROBERT GALLIMORE

1 Seaview Avenue

Kingston 10
