OLYMPIAN RICHARD Phillips and Carlene Robinson were Jamaica's winners at last weekend's Tyson Invitational meet held at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Complex in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Phillips, who contested the 110m hurdles at last summer's Olympic Games in Athens, won Saturday's 60m obstacle event in 7.74 seconds, beating his George Masson University and fellow Jamaican teammate Ricardo Melbourne (7.79) into second.
In the women's 800m, Robinson, a World Youth bronze medallist, captured her pet event in 2:10.01 seconds. She left in her wake Temeka Kincy of Texas (2:10.50) and Leslie Treherne of Tennessee (2:10.69).
Shervon Stoddart and World Junior 100m silver medallist Simone Facey were also medal winners.
Stoddart, representing South Carolina, was timed in 53.15 seconds in the women's 400m dash, beaten by Miami's Ginou Etienne (52.91).
THE TWIN SISTER
World Youth gold medallist and World Junior bronze medallist Camille Robinson, the twin sister of Carlene, was 19th on the overall list in 51.51, despite winning her heat (9) in the time-final 400m.
Facey, formerly of Vere Technical, was third in the women's 200m. The Carifta Games Under-20 100m champion's time of 23.43 was only bettered by Auburn's Fana Ashby (23.26) and Tremedia Brice of Texas Southern (23.28).
Stoddart (24.05) was 16th overall, despite her victory in heat six while former St. Jago star Melaine Walker was 31st in 24.30 and Tracey-Ann Rowe, formerly of Holmwood was 45th in 24.66.
Nadine Palmer and Tracia Henry were disqualified. Palmer and Henry crossed the line
in 23.57 and 24.59 seconds respectively.
Omar Brown, representing Arkansas, was fourth in the men's 200m in 21.01. The world's fastest junior indoors over 400m, American and East Carolina LaShawn Merritt won the event in 20.40.
Kasia Williams (8.41, NCAA provisional mark) and World Junior Championships silver medallist Walker (8.49) were sixth and eighth respectively in the women's 60m hurdles.
Carifta Games Under-20 100m hurdles champion, Keisha Brown, failed to make the 60m hurdles final, finishing in 8.47 seconds for 11th overall. So too did Walker, who finished 10th in 8.38 seconds.
Facey had earlier lost out in a photo finish for a spot in the final of the women's 60m dash. She was timed in 7.41 for ninth, the same time as South Carolina's Erica Whipple, who advanced with a 7.404 calculation against Facey's 7.408.
Kareen Gayle of Auburn was sixth in the women's 800m unseeded in 2:12.15, behind winner Shay Sheldon of South Carolina (2:09.19).
