THE EDITOR, Sir:PLEASE ALLOW me to shine some light upon a situation that exists at the Dalvey P.O. in St. Thomas.
For some time now the pensioners in the Dalvey and surrounding communities have not been getting their money on time. It happened several times during 2004, and since January 2005, it happened twice. The pensioners at Golden Grove P.O. got theirs on time. The worst part is, the persons who work at the post office do not get the information as to when the money will be paid, so that they can give the pensioners a direct time. It sometimes takes over a week for them to be told it will be paid tomorrow, or some time next week or so.
The pensioners are having a very hard time when the money does not come on time. They find it so hard to pay for transportation. Most of them even have to seek financial help to pay their way back home and when we think of the financial hardship they face at home during the two-week period, on the meagre amount they receive, another week, sometimes even more is added to their time of waiting.
I wish someone from the Ministry of Social Security or Postal Services would step forward and address the situation without delay, for the pensioners are suffering. Remember, they toiled long and hard during their working years.
I am, etc.,
