THE EDITOR, Sir:
THOSE HIGHWAY commuters who are frequent users of Highway 2000 Spanish Town to May Pen and Mandela, near Kingston to Sandy Bay, Clarendon, can say that the 50 per cent discount is a fine gesture.
Based on the press release from the operators of Highway 2000, Trans Jamaican Highway and Jamaican Infrastructure Operation, this would only apply to commuters who purchase T-Tags and travel the highway at least two times per day which amounts to a minimum of 10 times for a five-day week.
Let us then, look at the discount benefit, by using, for example, the $160 toll charge paid for 10 times per week would cost $1,600. Therefore, the benefit derived would be $800 and so, for the month,
calculating at four weeks, there will be a saving of $3,200.
However, commuters who fall in these categories, will have to produce other proof of residency, employment, etc., to enable them to claim the discount.
This is another memorandum of understanding and so, we are hoping that it will be a binding contract.
Some of us make it a habit to huff and complain when any developments are contemplated or being done to enhance upward movement.
What a difference to drive on a 33-kilometre road way, free of pot holes and rough road surface.
Thanks to our foreign partners in this development
