Praises due for pantomime
published: Sunday | February 20, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WOULD like to praise Mrs. Barbara Gloudon and her team for the wonderful job they did on this year's pantomime.

There are many people who criticise the pantomime, when what they really ought to be doing is heaping praise.

The pantomime is not just a play for entertainment's sake, it is also a preserver of our national heritage and our culture.

An example of that in this year's play are the Anancy stories and the folklore surrounding the cotton tree. Every year, the pantomime team includes Jamaican proverbs and other elements of Jamaican culture that many of us have forgotten.

I would suggest to the parents out there, that instead of having your children watch Pokemon and other cartoons of that ilk, take them to watch our pantomime and let them learn something about Jamaica's culture and heritage.

So Mrs. Gloudon and company, keep up the good work and continue to preserve our heritage and culture through your wonderful play.

I am, etc.,
