Four youths shot dead in Kingston
published: Sunday | February 20, 2005

THREE YOUNG men of St. Benedicts Heights, Harbour View, were shot dead in the wee hours yesterday morning, and a 13-year old girl killed in Kingston.

Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) Metro Officer are that about 12:50 a.m, a dance was in progress in an open lot at Melbrook Heights when explosions were heard. Patrons ran from the scene and the police were summoned.

Oniel Jacks also know as 'Squiddy', 21, Andre Whilby believed to be 17 and 14-year-old Hakeem Armstrong were shot.

On arrival of the lawmen, Jacks was seen suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives probing the area later found the bodies of Whilby and Armstrong nearby with gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the youths ran off after being shot and succumbed to their injuries.

The Kingston Eastern Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the triple murder.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old girl was shot and killed on Matchel Parkway, Kingston 12 yesterday afternoon. She has been identified as Peta-Gaye Francis of a Coley Smith Drive address. She was a student of the Charlie Smith High School.

The CCN reported that Francis was among a group of persons standing along Matchel Parkway about 1:30 p.m. when a group of gunmen approached and opened fire. Two persons were shot.

Francis was later pronounced dead and a 43-year-old man admitted to hospital.

The police have attributed the shooting to an on-going gang feud in the area.
