Blackwood, Pinnock cop second victories

Blackwood ... secured a victory in the men's 400m. - File

MICHAEL BLACKWOOD and Chris Pinnock secured their second victories in three days at the Telstra A Series held at Adelaide's Santos Stadium in Australia yesterday.

In yesterday's fourth and final leg of the the series, Commonwealth Games champion Blackwood and national record holder Pinnock secured victories in the men's 400m and 110m hurdles respectively. Both athletes now await the next Australian stop, the Telstra A Championships in Sydney between March 4-6.

After winning Thursday's 400m in Melbourne in 45.81, Blackwood returned to take yesterday's event in 45.68, the second fastest time this season.

MCDONALD IMPROVES

Also improving on his Melbourne performance was Michael McDonald, who ran 46.21, bettering Thursday's time of 46.24, but he again was third. Daniel Batman of Australia was second in 45.98.

Meanwhile, Pinnock crossed the line to win the 110m hurdles in 14.28, .19 seconds slower than in Melbourne. Australian Stuart Anderson was second in 15.02 seconds.

In the women's 400m, Olympians Novlene Williams was second again while Sandie Richards stepped on the medal podium.

Williams' runner-up effort was achieved with a 52.77 clocking while Richards' 54.34 seconds gave her third.

For the second contest in a row, Australian Tamsyn Lewis won the event in 52.71.
