SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

THE SECRETARY and assistant secretary to J.C. Hutchinson, member of Parliament for north west St. Elizabeth, were among five persons injured in a traffic accident along the Highway 2000 toll road yesterday at about 10:45 a.m.

The injured have been identified as André Salmon, 21, Lilieth Sergeant, and Ilona Marshall, both 40, all of North Hampton, Santa Cruz.

Other persons injured were Livingston Johnson, 30-year-old driver, and Doreen Brooks, 25, both of Newton, St. Elizabeth.

Both Brooks and Marshall, who are employed to Mr. Hutchinson, were passengers in a Toyota Camry motor car driven by Johnson.

According to the police, the vehicle was travelling towards Kingston when it swerved from left to right and the driver got into difficulties and sped off the road. The vehicle was extensively damaged.

Brooks suffered broken legs, Marshall suffered a fractured skull, neck and both hands, while Salmon suffered injuries to his head and other parts of his body. Seageant also suffered head injuries.

When The Gleaner visited the Spanish Town Hospital, the injured were being treated. Mr. Hutchinson and several JLP supporters were at the hospital.

He said that he was saddened by the accident as they were proceeding all the way from St. Elizabeth to the JLP conference and in Kingston. "I wish them a speedy recovery," he said.
