WESTERN UNION announced the renewed sponsorship of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Intermediate 'B' League for the eighth year running, at the competition's Opening Ceremony yesterday at the Leila Robinson Courts.

The sponsorship, worth a grand total of $1 million, saw the entry of 25 teams, including last year's winners Arnett Gardens.

The title up for grabs will be backed up with a cash award worth $30,000, with second place taking home $25,000 and third place going home with $15,000.

Arnett started their campaign in the upper division well enough when they managed to eke out a 27-25 victory over Waulgrovians 'B'.

GOOD CROWD SUPPORT

In other games last night, that were highlighted by good crowd support, there were two draws. The Ocho Rios Magics, who are still fairly new to the JNA circuit, had an exciting 24-all draw with Springfield, who literally tied the game at the last whistle.

Ebony Strikers 'A' and Braeton also played to a draw after both teams topped out 35 points a piece.

Hampshire 'A', who were beaten in the third place play-off last year, started their campaign on a winning note as well, beating Seneca 'B' 40-25.

Police 'B' gave Torrington Park a miserable welcome when they thwarted their efforts with a 32-28 victory, while Omega 'B' defeated Red Challenge 32-27.

In the highest scoring game of the evening, University of the West Indies (UWI) Revolution were outplayed 41-26 by the Ravens in a one-sided affair.

Holy Childhood, after a good 10-6 lead in the first-half, failed to stand their ground against the late surge of Alexander Strikers, who quickly piled up a 24-21 victory.

Speg 'B' had a good 39-20 victory over Hampshire 'C' to join Speg 'D' in celebration mode after their 29-20 victory over Hagley Park.
