A steady voice of reason

THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE REFORM agenda in the JLP, except with the changing of the leader and some other prominent faces has yet not been
articulated. Some may say that today is historic and that depends on whether we are to applaud announcements and not actions. When we listen to the JLP speakers these days, the average person may be filled with hope and anticipation, however, on seeing their actions, we are left with hopelessness and despair.
The Sunday Gleaner (20/2/05) headline article referred to some other speculative changes to be made within the officer corps of the JLP.
It would be a much better stabilising factor if the present leader of the Opposition, Dr. Ken Baugh, is elected the chairman of the JLP. Dr. Baugh has been a steady voice of reason, cordiality and unity who seems to be able to maintain an impartial balance between the present antagonising factions within the party. Recent events at their last conference clearly demonstrate that a lot of tension and bad
feelings exist within the JLP, which is not good for the country as the present government seems to be taking full advantage of the JLP's problems to ignore the popular opinions of the citizens.
The rapprochement within the JLP should continue and be strengthened.
I am, etc.,
