THE SOUTH Korean foreign ministry has announced the establishment one-man diplomatic missions in Slovakia and Jamaica.
In a reshuffle, Jeong Ju-heon, former ambassador to Tanzania, was named acting ambassador to Slovakia and Oh Ki-chull, former ambassador to Sudan, was appointed acting ambassador to Jamaica, the ministry said Tuesday.
They will staff the missions while concurrently serving as diplomatic ministers at the embassies in the Czech Republic and Mexico, respectively, it said.
It is the first time that the country has established missions on such a diminutive scale.
DIPLOMATIC OUTPOSTS
The ministry said it will push to establish small diplomatic outposts in countries that are of increasing importance to South Korea where it cannot open full-scale missions due to budgetary and other concerns.
The reshuffle also affected eight other ambassadors, including the appointment of Kim Joo-seok, senior researcher at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security, as new ambassador to Pakistan.
Other appointees included Ambassador to Peru Hahn Young-hee, Ambassador to Jordan Shin Yeon-sung, Ambassador to Uruguay Jang Tae-shin, Ambassador to Fiji Kim Bong-joo, and Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Park Sang-yoon.
