A day of prayer and fasting
published: Wednesday | February 23, 2005

THE SEVENTH-DAY Adventist Church has declared Saturday, March 5, 2005, a day of prayer and fasting for Jamaica.

A news release from the church said the entire membership of this island is being called to unite in praying to the Lord to bring about a spiritual revolution and stem the rising tide of crime and violence in Jamaica.

This special appeal is made to coincide with the worldwide observance of the annual International Women's Day of Prayer on the first Sabbath in March.

In an appeal to all members of the 654 congregations in the country, Pastor Patrick Allen, president of West Indies Union Conference said, "We are deeply troubled by the runaway state of crime and violence and we must address the matter with the weapon that is primary to our warfare 'Prayer and Fasting'."

Apart from the appeal to its membership, Pastor Allen is also inviting government representatives, churches, businesses and community leaders and interested individuals to participate in the service at the Adventist church in their local communities, on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at 11:00 a.m.
