Police probe death of tourist
published: Thursday | February 24, 2005

Nagra Plunkett, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU: THE CORAL Gardens Police are investigating the death of an American national, who reportedly lost his balance and fell from a third storey balcony at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort in St. James on Tuesday night.

The American has been identified as 51-year-old John Adams of Wayne Field in Ohio, in the United States.

Adams was pronounced dead at MoBay Hope Medical Centre where he was taken as a result of injuries sustained during the fall from the high-rise building at the Rose Hall property.

Reports from Constable Camille Tracey of the Constabulary Communication Network are that Adams was having alcoholic beverages in a bar at the hotel and later left for his room.

CLIMBING THE BALCONY

It is said that at about 11:00 p.m., an employee saw him climbing from the corridor onto a balcony. He reportedly lost his balance and fell from the building.

Adams has been a guest at the hotel since February 19 and was accompanied by a female friend.

"At this time we don't have a statement," a female employee in the hotel's executive offices told The Gleaner when efforts were made to contact General Manager, Guillermo Valencia. She said, "We are told to refer all calls to our corporate office in Atlanta."

When Darrell Chaneysield was contacted at the corporate office, he said he could not speak on the matter and that queries should be directed to Media Relations Department, which had prepared a statement on the incident.
