WITH ITS stated intention to add to the "basket of goods for clients in Jamaica," Jamaica Money Market Brokers Limited (JMMB) launched its insurance brokerage arm yesterday at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.
The company says that the concept of having an insurance arm of JMMB originated out of its plans for a comprehensive financial planning service. "We want every single Jamaican to have a plan ... with an investment strategy to meet their goals," explained the chief operating officer of JMMB, Keith Duncan, as he sought to explain the nexus between insurance and financial planning.
With its new thrust on financial planning services (FPS), JMMB has a "vehicle by which to offer each client a customised plan towards goal achievement, taking into account their entire financial
portfolio ... clients are helped to identify their specific objectives."
JMMB reiterated that "no financial planning should be without all the elements of sound financial
planning. Among these elements are insurance and investment options that seek to protect income, as well as provide financial support in times of crisis." Hence JMMB Insurance Brokers.
Managing Director Selwyn Batchelor will lead a team which will source and provide clients with relevant, specific insurance products for their individual needs. These products and services include:
Health insurance
Life insurance
Disability income
Critical illness cover
Personal accident cover
Corporate employee benefits solutions.
The company has formed an alliance with Blue Cross of Jamaica to introduce the inaugural BlueCare Plan. The insurance scheme offers three options, covering medical,
surgical, drugs, dental and optical health care services, especially for clients of JMMB.
Yesterday's launch also witnessed the official unveiling of the company's website. Although Mr. Batchelor stressed that the website is "a work in progress," based on the demonstration it is clear that much thought was put into it being
user-friendly and customer focused.
JMMB Insurance Brokers says that its website will allow clients to request quotations for insurance products, seek medical facilities and health personnel by parish, find a representative close to them, read useful articles on health as well as communicate with the office or a representative via email.
