THE SPANISH Town police are now investigating its 28th case of murder since the start of the year, following the fatal shooting of two men in less than 24 hours on Wednesday, February 23.

Reports reaching The Gleaner are that in the first incident, taxi operator Daniel Hemmings, 32 years old, was riding his bicycle along the Greendale main road in St. Catherine at about 1:40 p.m., when he was pounced upon by two men on foot. Brandishing handguns, the men were said to have fired several shots, hitting Hemmings in his head and chest. He died on the spot.

In the second incident, at about 8:40 p.m., Anthony Marcus Brown, 26-year-old higgler of 13 Marble Close in Eltham Park, was found suffering from gunshot wounds to the back of the head and shoulder. He was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where he died.

According to operations officer Marlon Nesbeth (DSP), the police will be doing a full investigation in both matters to bring closure to the case. And in the case of Hemmings, one man has already been taken into custody.
