WESTERN BUREAU:
THE RURAL town of Junction in St. Elizabeth was alive with excitement as the carnival fever passed through the farming community on Saturday night.
Organisers of the Supreme Ventures Jamaica Carnival 2005 outdid themselves with the staging of a successful fete at Pines Plaza that incorporated fire dancers, costumed girls and the legendary Bryon Lee, and The Dragonaires.
The jam-packed shopping centre was more than adequate for the hundreds that turned out for entertainment by the band and its singers Oscar B, Jumo and newcomer, Ashley.
Junction was by far the best and liveliest staging of the western stops, which included Montego Bay and Negril. Those country folks, young and old alike, really know how to get their party and liquor on.
FABULOUS JOB
Oscar B and the crew did a fabulous job of keeping up the momentum of the crowd with a selection of songs that dated back to the days of 'Soca Butterfly' and 'Soca Tatty'. The flags waved, at least, the rags and towels did, as the crowd showed its appreciation of the singers who never failed to deliver. Notable among them was Jumo, the ladies' sex-toy for the night.
They also had a rock and roll segment during which patrons danced to Mash Potatoes, Jailhouse Rock and Tootie Fruity. It was a crazy session as Nite Traxx, the sound system from May Pen, Clarendon took the helm during a band break and created a musical frenzy amongst the crowd.
Slick and Mad Dog, fire eaters from Negril tried to win the audience over with their presentation. While their intention was honourable, Slick's constant blabbering overshadowed their stint, as the crowd was not in the mood for speeches.
The Ensemble, costumed girls from Spanish Town, were the envy of the females, as they had the men trailing them around the venue enthralled by the outfits and protruding body parts that were in full view.
