YESTERDAY, STUDENTS islandwide marked Peace Day with a show of defiance against the crime and violence plaguing the society.

Across the Corporate Area and St. Catherine, schools were not short on activities.

At the Lannaman's Preparatory and Kindergarten schools, the students gathered to celebrate the day with a small concert in the morning.

"We need to be assured and reassured that peace can be accomplished. We can start by instilling good values in our children," said principal Truly Hardy.

She encouraged the gathering of children and a few parents to find other ways of dealing with conflicts.

Meanwhile in Portmore, students at Waterford Primary staged a 'peace march' through the community, carrying banners with peace messages including "Live in Peace, not in pieces" and "Let Peace Reign". They sang the anthem of the day "Give Peace A Chance".

Most of the students were attired in the now symbolic blue ribbon either using them as headbands or tying them to articles of clothing.
