Gleaner a champion
published: Thursday | March 3, 2005
THE EDITOR, Sir:I MUST hail your newspaper for being champion for several decades. In fact, from your very little first publication, standing up for the rights of the Jamaican people, it was clear that freedom of speech is your objective.
At this time, it is very important that the clarion call goes out through the trumpets and bells emphasising this fact, that Jamaicans must always be consulted in every important matter of state, and that it not be arbitrarily taken from them by persons who seek to exercise their powers on behalf of individuals without a care of how their actions will affect the individuals and Jamaica as a whole.
The need for expansion of new fields in agriculture, the manufacturing industry, exporting to new countries, is very urgent, and we need a REJUVENATED set of Jamaicans to perform this task. I know you will be at the forefront of this endeavour, bringing Jamaica's aspirations to the world.
Once again, let me hail the Gleaner Company and all who have worked there since its inception for putting Jamaica in the forefront at all times.
I am, etc.,
