published: Friday | March 4, 2005

PALMER

FORTY-SIX LOCAL companies and individuals have been nominated for this year's Jamaica Chamber of Commerce's Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony, set to take place on Thursday, March 10 at the Hilton Kingston Hotel beginning 7:00 p.m.

The awards up for grabs by the nominated companies include the Best of the Chamber; Entrepreneurial Small, Medium and Large and Environmental Awareness and Protection. In the meantime, the individual nominees will be vying for Outstanding Community Service and Outstanding Chamber Member plaques, while the Best Parish Chamber will go to one of three nominated parish Chambers.

Guest speaker at the function will be Professor Godfrey Palmer, a distinguished Jamaican, who is one of the world's foremost experts in grains and cereals and is directly responsible for research that has boosted the earnings of the grain, beer and whiskey industries in the United Kingdom over the past four decades. He has also served as chairman of the prestigious Chivas Regal Academy, a body charged with promoting Scotch whiskey worldwide.

Professor Palmer has published more than 100 scientific papers, written or edited a number of landmark publications, including Best Practice in Malting. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contribution to grain science and the Black Enterprise Champion Award in London.

Guest of honour at the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce's 2005 Awards on March 10 will be former leader of the Opposition, Edward Seaga, who earlier this year stepped away from a 46 year political career to take up the post of Distinguished Fellow at the UWI's School of Graduate Studies and Research.

Entertainment at the event will be provided by the Warm & Easy Aggregation.
