Marshall axed from squad
published: Friday | March 4, 2005

MARSHALL

YOUNG OPENING batsman Xavier Marshall has been dropped from Jamaica's squad for today's ninth-round Carib Beer Series match against Barbados for disciplinary reasons.

The Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) stated in a release yesterday that "Reports by the team manager of the recent behaviour of Xavier Marshall, considered inimical to the performance of the team, has resulted in his omission".

Marshall, who toured Australia with the West Indies squad in February, has only played three matches so far for Jamaica. He joined the squad for away matches against the Leeward Islands, Guyana and Trinidad.

A source told The Gleaner that Marshall has been behaving strangely and was at times abusive to his teammates.

He has so far scored 122 runs at an average of 40.66 with a top-score of 62 against the Leewards.

The right-handed batsman has represented the West Indies in one limited overs match, against Australia, scoring five, batting at number five.
