Huge turnout at New Kingston street jam
published: Tuesday | March 8, 2005

THE JAMAICA Carnival group took the celebrations to the streets of New Kingston last Sunday, when they held their 'Radioactive Street Jam', giving the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew a taste of what was to come for carnival 2K5.

Byron Lee and the Dragonaires had the entire stretch of Knutsford Boulevard in New Kingston packed with patrons, who turned out to soak up some of the soca flavour.

The band kept the crowd very entertained with their energy and vibes, spitting a mixture of old and new soca tunes.

Get Di Cat, Tempted to Touch, Nookie and What happen in di Party, were among some of the tunes that Byron Lee and the Dragonaires did.

Led by Oscar B and Jumo, the band held the audience captive, putting on a display of dance moves and other antics on the stage, the crowd trying to follow their every move, as they swayed from left to right.

In addition to the mix of soca/calypso music, patrons were also treated to a short stint of dancehall music during the band's break, as the likes of Black-er, with his current hot tunes Attitude and Tek off Something, intensified the vibes in the party, while Sugar Roy and Conrad Christy, followed with a short 'Education' class.

TUNE FOR TUNE

Radio disc jockeys, DJ Sunshine and Jerry D, also contributed to the excitement, as the two went toe-to-toe, spinning tune for tune on the turntables.

It was then back to the soca flavour, as Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, led by Jumo and Oscar B, returned to the stage at exactly 10 p.m. to give patrons another one-hour set of pure excitement.

I Command You, Butterfly, Hand in Di Air and Tiney Winey were among the tunes that Byron Lee and the Dragonaires performed, as they rounded off an evening of soca fun and excitement.
