Thomas reshuffles charges
published: Tuesday | March 8, 2005

Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

POLICE COMMISSIONER Lucius Thomas has reassigned several senior members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to some of the troubled spots across the island.

"The next batch of transfers will include senior officers and sub-officers," Commissioner Thomas told The Gleaner last night.

Among those reassigned is Assistant Commissioner Keith 'Trinity' Gardener, who was recently given the task by Commissioner Thomas to review the backlog of case files regarding disciplinary proceedings within the JCF.

'TRINITY' GOES TO ST. JAMES

ACP Gardener, who was based at the commissioner's office, has been reassigned to Area One, which covers the crime-plagued area of Montego Bay, St. James. SSP Paul Ferguson will be replaced by Superintendent Warren Clarke at the St. James Police Division. Clarke is regarded as one of the bright and budding stars in the police force. Ferguson has been transferred to the Police Training School in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine.

Speaking with The Gleaner yesterday, ACP Gardner said his priorities will be guided by the JCF's Corporate Strategy Plan.

High on the list of reassigned officers is also Superintendent Kenneth Wade, who has replaced Superintendent Wrenford Robinson in St. Catherine North. Supt. Robinson has been recalled to the CIB headquarters in downtown Kingston.

"My main focus will be directing and motivating my staff. Then go after the individuals who are involved in crime," said Supt. Wade.

St. Catherine North includes the hotbed of Spanish Town, which has been a major headache to the police force. At least a dozen persons have been killed in Spanish Town over the past three weeks. Meanwhile, several others have been shot and injured. Last week, 40 persons were murdered,
bringing this year's toll to 290.

Superintendent Cornelius 'Calf' Walker has been transferred from St. Catherine South to Area Four as the area crime officer.

"It cannot be that anarchy will be the order of the day. We will be executing our duties in accordance with the law," said Supt. Walker.

Superintendent Harry 'Bungles' Daley, whose transfer from the Denham Town Police Station last year sparked a mass protest by citizens, demanding that he stay, has been moved to Area Four as the area operations officer.

The Gleaner also has been informed that Superintendents C. Bowen and E. Nelson are included on the transfer list. Nelson, The Gleaner understands, will be going to St. Catherine South.
