THE EDITOR, Sir:
ON SATURDAY, February 26, at about 4:30 a.m., my daughter, her husband and myself rushed my 14-month-old grandson to the Accident and Emergency Unit at the University Hospital of the West Indies.
I cannot begin to express just how much I was impressed with the unit. Within five to 10 minutes, we were welcomed into a clean and sterile environment by the most professional team of doctors and staff, including the security guard and ancillary staff.
They were all so calming, so gentle, so soft-spoken. Not once in my four hours plus there, did I hear a raised voice and everyone who came in was attended to as professionally as we were.
I just cannot believe what a good experience our visit to the unit was despite our anxiety.
The doctors and nurses also helped dispel our worries and fears. They handled our sick and screaming baby with all the love, respect and gentleness in the world.
They are the Jamaica I grew up knowing and loving. They are helping to build a better Jamaica.
Special thanks must go to the doctors who attended to my grandson and to a young doctor, also on duty that morning, who went to school with my daughter. They are doctors Turner, Titus, Espinosa and Strachan.
Thank you all so much and may God continue to bless you all.
