... Businessman gets decision over state
published: Thursday | March 10, 2005

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC:

PROMINENT TRINIDADIAN businessman, Lawrence Duprey, has won a lawsuit against the state following a search of his home and office by members of the Anti-Corruption Investigations Bureau (ACIB) last year.

The state has admitted that the ACIB used illegally obtained warrants to search and seize documents from the home and offices of Duprey, who is also executive chairman of CL Financial, a leading conglomerate in Trinidad and Tobago.

ACIB officials had searched Duprey's home and offices in September and October last year, and the warrants had also authorised Government-hired forensic investigators Robert Lindquist and Dr. Hans Marschdorf to assist police in the searches.

The state has agreed to compensate Duprey for breaching his fundamental rights to privacy, liberty and enjoyment of property.
