Standardise the dating format
published: Thursday | March 10, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM very confused when it comes to reading and understanding the dates written in this country. I've been reliably informed that government instructed its employees from 2000 that the date should be formatted as year/month/day and before that it was usually day/month/year used here.

I would appreciate that the 'powers that be' see to the standardisation of same. Wherever in America one goes it has to be month/day/year and since "they" seem to be our 'exemplars' could the relevant authority so move to have a standard form in writing dates here. Did anyone notice that the receipts from utility companies/supermarkets department stores/expiry dates etc., carry their 'own' dating style?

As a matter of fact it should be very interesting to know which government ministry is responsible to see that the date is standardised in Jamaica. Are any other readers as confused as I am?

I am, etc.,
