J'cans grab third places at Cross Country Champs

JAMAICA CAPTURED three third-place finishes at last weekend's inaugural North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Championships held at USA's National Training Center in Clermont, Florida.

The junior women's team of Tamika Thomas who finished eighth (6.22), along with Neisha Morgan (6.32), Latoy Barnett (7.04) and Veronica Cassanova (7.09) who were 10th, 13th and 14th respectively, combined for a time of 1:07:21.00 and third behind the USA (1:00:22.00) and Puerto Rico (1:04:26.00).

JAMAICANS' TIME

In the junior men 6km section, Kirk Brown (5:37), Damion Bent (5:38) and Marshall Williams (5:42) were the best placed at ninth, 10th and 11th respectively to help Jamaica a total time of 1:24:33.00.

For the senior men's team, Jason Saunders (5:36), Wainard Talbert (5:37) and Phillip Edwards (5.43) were the best placed at 19th, 20th and 22nd places respectively.

Jamaica tallied a time of 1:53:09 to finish behind the USA (1:43.08) and Puerto Rico (1:47:20) in the 8km event.

The senior women with Areita Martin (6.47) at 11th and Metrecia James (7.03) at 13th place, did not place in the 6km event.
