A police officer consoles a resident on Bryden Street.A PREGNANT woman who said her mother was killed in the incident was hysterical, "A mi house unoo want, onoo can't get it. Wi have wi papers. Mi mother alone nah go down!" she screamed.
While scores of officers from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), where processing the crime scene at Bryden Street, the criminals, in a brazen act of defiance, fired a shot from a gun with a silencer.
Upon hearing the whistling of the bullet, police, residents and media personnel ran for cover.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Cornwall 'Bigga' Ford immediately pulled his radio and pleaded for help. "We can't process the scene. We are having some difficulties. Send some back up," the senior officer pleaded.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mark Shields, who was recently seconded to the JCF from Scotland Yard, arrived on the crime scene. He was quickly briefed by the local lawmen.
The murders were just hours apart and occurred in three separate shooting incidents. The first incident happened at about midday, when gunmen attacked a man on Bryden Street and killed him.
About two hours later, gunmen returned to the scene of the crime and entered a house at 26 Bryden Street and fired a barrage of shots. Before the screams could cease, it was ascertained that two women and a man were shot.
The women, Eugenie Thomp-son, 65 and 'Marian', 33, (who was Ms. Thompson's tenant), died on the spot. However, the man, a relative of Ms. Thompson known only as Dave, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The other shooting incident occurred on Winward Road at the Happy Times Pool and Lounge where a woman was shot dead. Bloodstains were seen outside on the pavement as testament to the murder. Blood trails were also seen leading into the bowels of the bar, where the murder apparently occurred.
It is alleged that all the incidents are related. Residents told The Sunday Gleaner that men from Bryden Street and Brae Street have been warring for some time now.
