THE PARTIALLY decomposed bodies of two St. James men, who went missing after attending a wake in Jericho, Hanover last Saturday night, were found in bushes in the Mosquito Cove area of the parish on Tuesday morning. The bodies had what appeared to be bullets and machete wounds.
The dead men have been identified as 40-year-old taxi operator Errol 'Fairy' Holness of Black Shop district in rural St. James and 40-year-old steel worker Neville Kerr of 32 Church Street, in Montego Bay. The Toyota Corolla motorcar, in which the men were last seen, was found burnt out about half mile away from where the bodies were found.
Police investigators at the scene told The Gleaner that at about 8:15 a.m., residents of Jericho alerted them to a body that was seen in bushes along a lonely roadway in the area. When they arrived at the scene, the lawmen stumbled upon two bodies instead of one.
According to initial investigations by the police, the two men, who were at a wake in Jericho, drove away from that location shortly after 3:00 a.m. Sunday.
FEARING THE WORST
Jacinth Holness, the older sister of Errol, who was among the scores of curious onlookers who converged at the death scene, told The Gleaner that her family had started fearing the worst on Monday afternoon when her brother's burnt-out car was found on a lonely road, just off the Lucea to Montego Bay highway. She said the news of his death confirmed
their suspicion.
"We knew something was wrong because it is unusual for him (Mr. Holness) to be away for so long without making contact with the family," said Ms. Holness, who said her brother is the father of three boys ages 15 years, four years and three years. "He was a kind and loving person, who did not deserve to die like this."
This incident, which brings Hanover's murder count to ten since the start of the year, comes on the heels of a double
murder at a construction site in the parish just over a month ago.
