Speed gun unreliable
published: Wednesday | March 16, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:THE CONSTABULARY Force speed gun is ofensive.

When members of the Constabulary Force point a speed gun at an oncoming motorist, you are only certain it is in fact one, when you get real close.

The second point to be made about this gun is that if its technology enables it to record the speed of motorists going over the limit, why can't it also record and display the licence plate numbers of the vehicles?

This device appears to lack authenticity if it cannot simultaneously record both speed and registration numbers of the motorist it is indicating is in violation. At the moment, we all have to take the police's word.

I call on the president of the Jamaica Bar Association, Mrs. Henry, to research the constitutionality of these matters.

I am, etc.,

DERRICK SIMON
