THE EDITOR, Sir:
IN RELATION to the article 'Sandals Whitehouse Wins Seven HSMAI Awards' in the Gleaner March 16, is this not the same great hotel that was supposed to be opened in the late 2004 Christmas, then delayed until Febuary 15, 2005?
I had tried to book a reservation last fall at this property but was told that they were booked solid. It would have been our first stay at a Sandals Hotel as we have for the past 22 years stayed at an Issa hotel.
I believe I read in an earlier newspaper that this same hotel was not ready at its proposed date of opening and that many guests had to be transferred to other Sandals properties and some were even given free stays for their next visit to Sandals.
Now I read that this very same property on behalf of the developer has received all of these prestigious awards. Is this how one wins big awards and fabulous advertising, by not being able to take care of guests who in good faith reserved rooms for the Grand Opening only to be sent elsewhere? How is it that Mr. Stewart is able to use these awards for his property's advertising under these circumstances?
I am, etc.,
