HOLY THURSDAY! It's Easter time again! The season when Christians worldwide take time out to celebrate God's ultimate sacrifice. Many people abandon personal pleasures during this season, in respect of what many consider to be Christianity's most important holiday. For others however, the Easter holidays simply mean four days of fun, frivolity and fervid frolicking.
But no matter how you look at it, Jamaicans are on the verge of four days of freedom, children are on holidays and (most) adults will get time off work.
WHAT TO DO WITH FREE TIME
But what exactly should you do with all that free time? Before you give in and agree to spend the holidays with your mother-in-law, take a look at these five suggestions.
Be sure to spend some time in Church this Easter - yes - this is a must. The Kingston Parish Church on King Street is currently having a week of services in recognition of Holy Week. This will culminate with a special service on Easter Sunday, beginning at 7:30 a.m. For details of the week's other activities, call 922-6888.
On Friday, the Carpenter's Memorial United Brethren Church in Golden Spring, St. Andrew, will be having a women's fellowship concert, starting at 8 p.m. Admission is $50, and food and refreshment will be on sale. Look out for guest artistes.
So after you've been filled with the spirit of the Most High, it's time to fill your stomach with the fruits of His labour. It's off to Portland for a fish festival at the Manchioneal All Age School. This will be held on Sunday and will feature a stage show, with several popular artistes and attractions for the children. There will be go-karts, a fire dancer, a magician and a motion simulator to keep the little ones smiling. It will cost $300 for adults to get in and $100 for children under 12.
If you are in the mood for laughter, then roll in the aisles at Centerstage, on Dominica Drive, New Kingston, on Easter Monday as they host two showings of Patrick Brown's tremendously successful play, "Ras Noah and the Hawk". Call 968-7529 for more information.
Finally, why not take the family out to the movies? Among a number of entertaining pictures, you may choose to see the particularly relevant 'The Passion of the Christ', which has been brought back to cinemas for a limited period.
