Looking to the future
published: Wednesday | March 23, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I READ with great interest the letter entitled 'Another bouncer for Bruce', which appeared on your opinion page, on Friday March 18, which was apparently a follow-up letter to an earlier one, entitled, 'A bouncer for Bruce'.

I am sure that Bruce Golding can defend his contribution to Jamaica while he was minister of housing during the '80s. What is sure, no matter how great or small his past performance, it will not help in solving the current problems. Therefore, let us look to the future with renewed spirit and a strong resolve to restore law and order, respect for all, and a strong economy, where equal rights and justice will create prosperity for all.

The prevailing problems in Jamaica will not be solved with bouncers after bouncers to Bruce. Yes, I fully understand the frustration of many young people too young to have experienced a government under the Jamaica Labour Party, but the way forward does not lie in the bowling of 'bouncers' or 'gotcha' questions for the purpose of embarrassing the new Jamaica Labour Party leader. Instead, we should focus on the positives in developing problem-solving ideas and proposals and pitch them to Bruce. This surely will demonstrate that the young people of Jamaica not only have the will, but the capacity to be productive. Yes, let your voices be heard in a positive and creative way.

God bless Jamaica, land we love.

I am, etc.,

JP, Notary Public
