THE EDITOR, Sir:The thrashing and negative verbal attacks on the police, coupled with the continued violence against our security forces is most unfortunate, to say the least.
I believe it is important that we as citizens who experience the positive side of a most dangerous and difficult job, make it known and in this case say thanks to the commissioner and all members of the police force.
Late last year, my elderly mother had a fall at home. This resulted in a nasty and possibly life-threatening blow to her head; there was a cut and it bled profusely. For the first time in my life I saw this very spiritual woman panic in fear for her life.
In trying to reach the hospital quickly, I stopped at the Constant Spring Police Station and asked for help. It was around mid-day during the week. Without question two mobile officers shouted for me to follow them.
The officers escorted me through the tight traffic to the University Hospital of the West Indies where my mother was treated by that wonderful staff, all in a relatively short time.
What started out as a very horrible and frightening experience ended in much happiness for my family. The officers never lingered, never asked any questions. They just moved on, I suppose to the next duty. Officers Vernon Howell and Michael Vassall, thank you so much.
I am etc,
