McKey, Smatt hunt singles title
published: Monday | March 28, 2005

WESTERN BUREAU:

FORMER CHAMPIONS Vince McKey and Jessie Smatt will meet in this morning's men's singles final at the 15th annual Swept Away Clay Court Tennis Championships in Negril.

Former Davis Cup representative Smatt beat defending champion Fitzroy House 7-5, 6-1 in yesterday's semis, while top seed McKey eliminated Jermaine Meikle 6-1, 6-4.

The final is expected to be a tough one between two players who dominated their half of the draw and are yet to drop a set.

The women's open singles semi-finals and final are also set to be contested with Florida-based teenager Malika Rose looking set to add her name to the list of winners.

Rose, who is playing in the tournament for the first time, is yet to drop a game winning her three matches 6-0, 6-0.

One final has already being decided, the men's Class II where Robert Edwards beat Richard Moyston 6-2, 7-5 yesterday.
