IN A society where job opportunities are very scarce, individuals are forced to create profitable businesses from 'ignored resources'.
One such person is 27-year-old Kadian Green, a resident of Westchester in Portmore, who always dreamt of opening his own business.
The young entrepreneur who, from age 16, would travel with his cousin to work at her store, told The Gleaner that, "It was during this
period, when I would work with my cousin at her Farm and Garden store, that I developed the desire to actually open one such store for myself."
Finally the dream has become a reality. He is now the owner of his own store, called the FarmPro store. It is located in Passagefort, St. Catherine on the new Portmore Town Centre Plaza.
"We are one of approximately only three stores of this kind in Portmore."
The store is now five months old and Mr. Green says the public is very appreciative of the service it provides.
"At FarmPro, we specialise in all your farm and garden equipment, pet and animal foods."
Green is now focused on following his vision of starting a chain of FarmPro stores.
"I would like to see trucks around with my company's name on them, transporting my products islandwide."
There were some basic issues to be mastered before starting his store, he said.
"Plan properly," he stated. "Have a clear knowledge about your market."
It is also critical to choose a proper location for establishing a company. And perhaps most importantly, he said, "For a business to experience longevity, the entrepreneur must be very resourceful."
