THE ST. CATHERINE North police, along with the Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID), are conducting further investigations about the recent find of a Intratek submachine gun in the Ensom City area of Spanish Town.
Reports reaching The Gleaner are that an operation led by members of the OCID and their counterparts in Spanish Town last week led to the seizure of the weapon at a house on Delido Drive. Occupants of the house were not in and no one was charged with this find.
Checks by The Gleaner at the Spanish Town police station revealed that, while no one is charged, intensive investigation is underway to find how the weapon got to the location and to whom it belongs.
The seizure of this weapon have brought to nine, the number recovered by the police in Spanish Town, since the start of this year.
There are also 50 gun-related murders that have taken place in the division for the corresponding period. According to Detective Divisional Inspector, Derrick Champagnie, the police will be attempting to get rid of the
illegal guns off the streets.
They have increased their intelligence gathering machinery, Detective Champagnie said. "We are not going to sit and let criminals take over Spanish Town."
