A protest against 'Our Voices'
published: Wednesday | March 30, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WOULD like to use this medium to protest against the recent presentation of the television programme 'Our Voices', which had as its theme 'Sex Before Marriage'.

On the programme were two invited young women who were bold enough to state that although they were in their 20s, they had never had sex with any person; they were waiting until they were married. Here were two young women who should have been highly commended for their willingness to go against the present stream of immorality which has been destroying so many lives and wrecking marital relationships and all family life. Instead, the interviewers proceeded to ridicule, subtly mock the two young ladies, treating them as strange animals in a zoo.

The hosts only succeeded in demonstrating the depths of depravity to which our nation has sunken when chastity is laughed at and thought to be virtually unattainable. The regrettable fact is that when the direct question was asked, "Why should one wait until marriage before having sex?" none of the women (both Christians) was bold enough to say, "Because sex before marriage is a sin." In fact, the word 'sin' was not used in the entire programme, although this is what Jesus Christ called it.

Perhaps the deepest need of our society in its present state of desperate moral rottenness, is a return to the actual words of Christ, and a resolve to follow Him. In this regard, I want to congratulate TVJ for the bold decision to present the film 'Jesus' in its entirety on Good Friday. If television begins to hold up for emulation Christ-like virtues instead of our vices, the influence on our society may be remarkably salutary, even
revolutionary.

I am, etc.,
