Arthur Green, Gleaner Writer ST. THOMAS:
THE NATIONAL Reconstruction Training Project will help improve the standard of work of many of the country's artisans, says Harold Valentine, co-ordinator of the project.
It was introduced by the HEART Trust/NTA in response to Hurricane Ivan, he said. Mr. Valentine was speaking to a town meeting in Morant Bay earlier this month.
"The HEART Trust/NTA has, again, demonstrated its strength and commitment to the overall development of Jamaica with a new initiative to identify and facilitate artisans in heightening their awareness to be trained for certification," he said.
The concept has been framed to run a series of 'training clinics' for plumbers, carpenters, masons, electricians and welders to increase their competence to serve in the construction industry.
GETTING INVOLVED
The project was conceived to provide an opportunity to use the skills of technically-equipped persons to get involved in the national reconstruction effort, he said. It is being done in partnership with the Masterbuilders Association of Jamaica.
These training clinics will be held on Saturdays and will be focusing on Bath and Cedar Valley in the parish.
