70-RUN WIN

At the Presentation College grounds in Chaguanas, hosts Trindad and Tobago scored a comfortable 70-run win over the Leeward Islands.

The local team, being coached for the first time by Dasrath Maharaj, continued their good all-round form with another impressive performance.

They batted first and were dismissed in the 50th over for a competitive 206 with opening batsman Adrian Barath top scoring with 64, which required 100 balls in 113 minutes and contained five fours. Skipper Kjorn Ottley contributed 28 and allrounder Yannick Cariah scored 22.

Left-arm spinner Chesney Hughes was the top bowler for the Leewards with three for 48.

In response, the Leewards searching for their first win of the series were restricted to 136 for nine, with Nelson Challenger top scoring with 34. Cariah continued his good form with the ball by picking up three for 35. Barath was named Man of the Match.

At the Munroe Road Recreation Ground in Cunupia, defending champions Barbados, suffered their second consecutive defeat of the tournament, when they were beaten by six wickets by the Windward Islands.

The Bajans batted first and made 188 for eight in their 50 overs with captain Peter Clarke topscoring with 63 off 88 balls including five fours.

Off-spinner Elton Joseph was the pick of the Windwards' bowlers with four for 27.

In reply, the Windwards romped home by scoring 189 for four with 22 balls remaining, due to solid contributions from their top order batsmen.

Leading the way for the Windwards were Dalton Polius (43 not out), Kaimran Azzile (37) and Wayne Harper (33). Dario Vaughn picked up three for 30 for the Barbadian team, while Polius earned himself his second straight Man of the Match award.
