Warder, three inmates dead in attempted prison break

FOUR PERSONS, a warder and three inmates, died during a riot yesterday at the maximum security Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, downtown Kingston.

Head of the Correctional Services Department, Major Richard Reese, has ordered a top level probe into the bloody incident between inmates and warders which also left eight persons injured.

THE DEAD

Dead are Kamar Cotterell, Richard Harrison and Jeffrey Jones, all inmates who were serving life sentences at the penal facility; and a 28-year-old correctional officer Maurice Whittingham of a Spanish Town, St. Catherine address.

THE INJURED

Those injured during the prison disturbance include are correctional officers Wayne Lindsay, Roger Mills and Cleopatrick Blake. Probation aftercare officer, Carol Clarke, was also shot, along with a visitor, Nisshar Crossdale, who has been hospitalised.
