Gary Barrow, formerly of Cable & Wireless, speaking at a Gleaner Editors' Forum last year.

GARY BARROW, former president and chief executive officer of Cable & Wireless Jamaica, has announced his resignation from the Cable & Wireless organisation just months after being reassigned to the company's London office.

His 15 years at the company included three years as president and CEO of the Jamaican operations, followed by a move to London in October last year to conduct a review of the company's experience of liberalisation and post-liberalisation in the Caribbean telecommunications market.

LESS CHALLENGING

Cable & Wireless said Mr. Barrow decided to resign after the review's completion, the appointment of a new executive group Director for international business and the restructuring of Jamaican operations. Mr. Barrow was said to regard the next stage of operational implementation as less challenging.

Len de Barros, chairman of Cable and Wireless Jamaica and CEO for the Caribbean, thanked Mr. Barrow for his service and wished him the best for the future. He said Mr. Barrow's recent review, "will help ensure the successful transition of our other businesses to achieve high performance in liberalised markets and maintain and strengthen customer service and customer confidence. "

Mr. de Barros said, "Gary has performed a great service to our business and also to the telecoms industry in Jamaica."
