published: Saturday | April 2, 2005

Rayan Dyer , Gleaner Writer

BLACK RIVER, St. Elizabeth:

MAYOR Of Black River and chairman of the St. Elizabeth Parish Council Franklyn Whitter said the recent drive to remove illegal advertising signs and billboards from the commercial district of Junction in the parish has been a success.

In an interview with The Gleaner, Mr. Whitter said that some 30 illegal signs were removed from the town of Junc-tion and 20 businesses have had their advertising signs regularised.

"Our focus really is to get the offending business operators to comply with the rules of the parish council," he said. "We are not only thinking about removing
people's signs from the streets."

The agency collected $80,000 from those who decided to
regularise their advertising signs during the operation.

Mr. Whitter added that all the business operators in the parish knew the agency was on a drive to rid the streets of the illegal advertising signs and billboards.
