Jamaica impressive, but ...
published: Sunday | April 3, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I recently visited my beautiful home Jamaica, and I must say that I was impressed with the progress that the country has made over the past ten years.

The Jamaican dollar seems to be holding steady, and everywhere around me there were signs of a nation on the rise. The one problem that seems to be still plaguing Jamaicans however is crime. Although I never experienced any while I was home, it was the one topic on the lips of every countryman that I met.

I hope our leaders can get serious about this problem and take the necessary steps to run the criminals out of our country. If this is not done, Jamaica will always be a place that has great potential but never lives up to it.

I am, etc.,
